About this Workshop
The Kampala design thinking workshop was a highly participatory event that engaged participants in a mix of creative activities. The overarching aim of the workshop was to find common interests and ideas on how to support sustainable urban development in the region.
What is Design thinking?
Design Thinking is a human-centred, problem-solving approach that makes use of visualization tools to promote participation. Design thinkers use creative strategies such as context-mapping and prototyping; strategies that designers have traditionally used in the process of designing products and services. As an approach, Design Thinking is gaining traction and is now used to tackle issues and resolve challenges beyond professional design practice; it is an approach that is currently being applied worldwide in corporate, academic, social and public sectors.

About the Learning Journey
The Learning Journey took place in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, a country in East Africa. The immersive and contextual approach of the journey was aimed at exploring innovation, entrepreneurship and investment opportunities in Nairobi. The delegation included participants from Austria and Germany, who actively engaged with local innovators to foster partnerships and learn about opportunities in the Silicon Savannah.
